Abstract

The development of logical thinking in students is essential for their professional performance, in such a way that educational programs play an important role in their academic training. The general objective was to characterize the high school and university mathematics programs with respect to their proposals for the development of logical thinking. The methodology was under the qualitative paradigm, the type of research was descriptive under a bibliographic design, course plans of the National Open University and educational programs of Venezuelan General Secondary Education were analyzed. Among the results, the application of this can be observed in the mathematical contents; Likewise, many of those studied in higher education are specific to that subsystem, such as limits, continuity of functions, differential and integral calculus, application of complex mathematical models, among others. As final considerations, it was highlighted that, among the official high school and university mathematics programs, various characteristics were observed such as: obtaining more knowledge, deepening it, discovering new mathematical horizons, all mathematics is related in terms of fundamentals but not in content.
